VILLAGE GREEN ENGLISH COUNTRY DANCERS
Information for new members as of August 2011
Classes
- Classes are held on Wednesday evening from 7:30 to 9:30 at Harrow United Church, 955 Mulvey.
- Teaching of the General Class is shared. We are blessed with many teachers who share their enthusiasm and expertise.
- Dances vary from the simple to the complex, lively to elegant, old and new.
- Beginning dancers are always welcome, and beginner classes are available when numbers demand.
General Information
- The hall at Harrow United has a lovely wood floor. Dancers are asked not to wear street shoes when dancing so as not to mar the finish. Also, it is a good idea to avoid wearing rubber-soled shoes, such as sneakers.
- When joining a set, always join at the bottom, that is, away from the music. Never push into a set.
- Time will be taken to teach movements, steps and terminology.
- Never be afraid to ask if you don't understand!
- A newsletter, The Town Crier, is published five times a year. It may include: details on upcoming events, instructions for dances and articles by members. If you have the urge to share travel adventures, dance (mis)adventures, etc., the editors would be pleased to hear from you. The newsletter can be e-mailed to you, if you prefer.
- The Village Green web site is at: www.villagegreenenglishcountrydancing.org
Socials
- Village Green holds socials several times a year.
- The Fine Companions, Village Green's house band, provides live music!
- Tickets for socials are kept to a minimum. Payment is made at the door. The Christmas social costs more to cover the cost of the dinner. The opening social is $5 for all.
- Members are asked to bring finger food and to help with necessary chores.
- Information on dates, themes, special attire, etc., can be found in The Town Crier or on the web site.
Special Events
- The end of each year is marked alternately by a Ball or a workshop weekend which usually includes a social. For the workshop Village Green often brings in a guest teacher with expertise in English Country Dancing or another form of folk dancing.
- A mini-workshop may be presented in conjunction with the October social.
Membership
- Membership fee is $30.00. Class fees are $35.00 per term. Challenge class $35.00 per year. Drop-in fee for paid-up members is $5.00
